It’s magic!
Big city magic finds a perfect new home in Galena

For P. T. Murphy, the magic began when he was just a little boy.

Gaining insight on little tricks from his grandfather and scoring a magic set for Christmas when he was 10 years old, Murphy has been

mystifying audiences ever since.

You can witness the magic for yourself at Murphy’s small intimate theater just off Main Street on Hill Street in Galena.

Murphy began his career in the world renowned city for magicians, which also happened to be his hometown of Chicago. Growing up, Murphy would read any magic book he could get his hands on to further his knowledge in the field. He also enjoyed watching traveling magicians when they would perform nearby.

At the age of 14, he began sharing his talent at birthday parties.

In 2007, Murphy co-created Chicago’s

highly acclaimed “The Magic Cabernet.”

He came across the quaint town of Galena while visiting a relative in the area. After seeing the town, he knew he wanted to bring his magic show to the other northern corner of Illinois. Moving to Galena became his dream.

Two years ago, he made his dream a reality when he and his wife and son moved to Galena and began their business, P. T. Murphy Magic.

“My favorite part about performing in Galena is that I get to perform to different people from all over the world every week. I also love watching how surprised people are about magic,” Murphy said.

His highly acclaimed performances are made very personal and entertaining as Murphy paints a picture with his storytelling and wows guests with his unique tricks. Between card tricks, interactive illusions and Murphy’s hilarious commentary, audience members leave with a smile on their face wondering, “How did he do that?”

As the master magician of Galena, Murphy takes his job very seriously, wanting each guest to enjoy themselves, but most importantly, to believe. “My job as the magician is to remind you that there is magic all around us. If I can create an illusion that takes you back to your childhood when you believed, then my job is done,” Murphy said.

His advice to others is to “believe in yourself, your dreams and magic.”

The show is family-friendly, and the theatre accommodates 24 audience members. Shows are offered year-round and tickets can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 779-214-0035. Visit ptmurphy.comfor more information.
